Homemade Sushi Rolls Using Hilly Basket's White Rice

Ingredients: 2 cups Hilly Basket's white rice (short-grain or sushi rice preferred), 2 ½ cups water, ¼ cup rice vinegar, 1 tbsp sugar, 1 tsp salt, Nori sheets (seaweed), Fillings (e.g., cucumber, avocado, carrots, or fresh fish like tuna or salmon), Soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger for serving.

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Rice
Rinse Hilly Basket's white rice under cold water until the water runs clear.

Cook the rice with water (2:1 ratio) in a rice cooker or on the stove. Let it sit covered for 10 minutes after cooking.

Step 2: Season the Rice
In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved.

Gently fold the mixture into the cooked Hilly Basket's white rice and allow it to cool to room temperature.

Step 3: Prepare Fillings
Slice cucumber, avocado, fish, or other preferred fillings into thin strips.

Step 4: Assemble the Sushi
Place a sheet of nori on a bamboo mat.

Evenly spread a layer of the seasoned Hilly Basket's white rice on the nori, leaving a small border at the top.

Add your chosen fillings in a straight line across the bottom section of the rice.

Step 5: Roll the Sushi
Use the bamboo mat to roll the sushi tightly, sealing the roll with a bit of water on the border of the nori.

Step 5: Cut and Serve
Slice the roll into pieces with a sharp knife.

Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.
